All Saints Organ Recital & Choral Evensong

Join us at 5:30 p.m. on November 3 for an Organ Recital with Shannon Murphy Mathai (bio below) followed by a Choral Evensong with our Cathedral Choir. Shannon Murphy Mathai is Organist and Assistant Music Director at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, Alabama. There she plays all services and directs the graded children’s choir program. Mrs. Mathai is an active recitalist. Recent appearances include performances at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in New York City as well as at the Haarlem International Organ Festival in the Netherlands. An advocate for new music at the organ, Mrs. Mathai has commissioned and premiered several works, including pieces by Aris Antoniades, Jonathan Posthuma, and Sarah Rimkus. Also active as a conductor, Mrs. Mathai attended the conducting institute at the Mostly Modern Festival, and has conducted performances with the American Modern Ensemble and Manhattan School of Music’s Lab Chorus. Until 2021 she taught as Assistant Director at the New York City Children’s Chorus. For several years she also directed the children's choirs of the Montgomery Music Project. She currently serves on the board of directors for Re: Soundings, a new choral project based in New York City. Mrs. Mathai holds a BMus in piano performance from Westminster Choir College where she studied organ with Ken Cowan, and a MMus in organ performance from the Manhattan School of Music where she studied with Kent Tritle. She also studied at the Longwood Organ Festival with Alan Morrison and Peter Conte. Mrs. Mathai is wife to Jacob Mathai, and mother to Selah Ann Mathai.
