FUMC Organ

The Organ of First United Methodist Church of Montgomery, was installed in 1968 by the Schantz Organ Company of Orville, Ohio. Sam Batt Owens served as the Organ Consultant for the project. The 53 rank instrument is divided among twin chambers towering over the choir stalls of the divided chancel. The three primary manual divisions (Great, Swell & Choir), played by the organist’s hands, are located in the right-hand case, facing the altar, with some of the Great pipes exposed in cantilevered chests. The pedal division is in the left-hand case and controlled by the organist’s feet. The Antiphonal Division and the Trompette En Chamade are on the back wall of the balcony. The complete resources of the organ are controlled from a three-manual console located in the right corner in the front of the sanctuary.

During the summer of 1996, the organ console was removed for renovation, the addition of a solid state relay system, inclulding 32 memory levels and a digital read-out for the crescendo pedal by the Milnar Organ Company of Eagleville, Tennessee. Warren Hutton served as organ consultant. In February 1998, the Trumpet En Chamade (a gift) was added to the back wall of the balcony and the entire organ was revoiced. In 2005 through another generous gift, the following stops were added: on the swell division an 8’ oboe and a 4’ harmonic flute, and a trumpet was added to the Great division. Also 4 more general pistons were added, bringing total generals to 12. Milnar Organ Company also made these additions.
