Adult Choirs
Cathedral Choir
The flagship ensemble of the Music Ministry, the Cathedral Choir is a non-auditioned group of singers who lead worship on Sunday mornings year-round and rehearse on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. August through June. With over 85 registered members, the choir is comprised of people of all musical abilities, from professional singers and instrumentalists to those who have done very little to no singing.
What opportunities for service does the Cathedral Choir offer?
First and foremost, our most important responsibility is leading worship on Sunday mornings and for special services such as the conference Ordination service, Holy Week services, and Christmas Eve services. We also offer several special services and concerts throughout the year with a large orchestra like our annual Lessons and Carols service and the annual Patriotic Concert in late June. We have sung some of the finest music ever written for the church including works by Mozart, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Faure, Rutter and others. If you are interested in singing with the Cathedral Choir, please contact Dr. James Seay at jseay@fumcmontgomery.org.
Adult Ensemble
The Adult Ensemble is a chamber choir with members selected from the Cathedral Choir who sing for special services throughout the year such as Choral Evensong Services, Good Friday Tenebrae, and the Ordination Service of the Alabama-West Florida Annual Conference. A highlight for the group was the invitation to sing the prelude preceding the 11:00 a.m. Eucharist at Washington National Cathedral, Washington D.C. As a choral ensemble, they are frequently called on to sing for weddings, Christmas tree lightings and other community events.
Men’s Ensemble and Women’s Ensemble
Both ensembles meet one Wednesday evening a month to rehearse and lead worship periodically throughout the year, September through May. The Men’s Ensemble sings a wide variety of music but specializes in the Men’s Southern Gospel tradition. The Women’s Ensemble sings a wide variety of music and is designed for the ladies of our church who love to sing and serve in worship but might not have enough time to commit to a weekly Cathedral Choir rehearsal. If you are interested in joining either ensemble, please contact Dr. James Seay, Director of Music at jseay@fumcmontgomery.org.
Adult Handbell Choirs
There are two adult handbell choirs, the Cathedral Bell Choir is a group that meets at noon on Tuesdays to rehearse. The Allegro Choir rehearses at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday nights. Both groups play in worship services, as well as in schools and out in the community. Rehearsals begin in September and end in early May. If you are interested in joining either Bell Choir, please contact Dr. Joshua Coble at jcoble@fumcmontgomery.org.
