Our stewardship focus this year is renewal, a commitment we make to God and one another at our baptism and church membership—“We renew our covenant to faithfully participate in the ministries of the church by our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.” Covenant, renewal, and transformation are at the heart of the biblical narrative. God wants you to experience renewal. God wants our community to find renewal. God wants this world to know renewal. Through our baptism and membership, God’s love story with humanity continues each time we say yes to God’s grace. It is the genesis of renewal. Saying yes to these five vows places us near God’s own heart.
On November 24, we will make our commitments in worship by pledging ourselves to God and one another in the five ways mentioned. How is God already speaking to your heart to “faithfully participate in the ministries of the church?” What new steps are you feeling nudged to take in order to experience even greater renewal?
Below you will find the 2020 pledge card for our Renewal initiative. For weeks now, you have heard stories of transformation in worship from persons connected to our congregation. I hope you have discerned the emphasis on matters of the heart and our entire story as children of God, rather than a singular monetary focus. Without question, ministry requires financial resources, and we are indeed asking each household to make a financial pledge toward our 2020 budget. However, I am also asking that each person pledge to pray, to be present, to serve, and to witness. If we commit ourselves to God and one another in these ways, there is no limit to the ministries we can accomplish together.
